Film Listings for July 20-26
Only one game in town this week - and it isn’t trying to understand the logic behind ‘Grilled O Fried’. The biggest film of the year hits pretty much every local screen from tomorrow. For those not of a bat persuasion, the Tricycle has conjured up some shrewd alternative programming, with some of the year's better offerings getting a cinematic encore.
Film of the Week
The Dark Knight Rises* (2012, action adventure, 164 mins)
The hero Gotham deserves returns, as Christopher Nolan completes his Batman trilogy. It begins 8 years after the events of The Dark Knight.
Finchley Rd Vue, Swiss Cottage Odeon (IMAX), Everyman (Hampstead, Maida Vale, Belsize Park).
One-off screenings
Breaking Away (1979, comedy drama, 101 mins).
The Friends of Fortune Green have organised an open-air screening of this American film classic on Tuesday July 24th, beginning at 9.30 p.m. on the green itself (weather permitting). It's free and - as it's a cycling-oriented film - it will be bike-powered. Yes, really.
Regular programme
The Tricycle Cinema
Encore presentations for three of the years best received films
Headhunters (2011, crime thriller, 100 mins, subtitles).
This excellent Norwegian thriller is the best film about recruitment consultants you will ever see. Game of Thrones fans get the opportunity to see a barely recognisable Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) as Clas Greve.
Fri 20:45, Sat 15:45
Moonrise Kingdom (2012, comedy drama, 94 mins).
The new film from Wes Anderson has been a revelation, spending nearly 3 months in cinemas. If you haven’t been, you probably should.
Fri 14:30, Sat 18:00
Marley (2012, music documentary, 144 mins)
Very well received Bob Marley documentary from Kevin McDonald.
Fri 18:00, Sat 20:15
(£9.50 adult, £8.50 concessions, Mon £6 adult, £4.50 Brent resident).
After Saturday, the Tricycle cinema will be handed over to the Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Village Festival, so only two days of listings this week.
