NxNW6 film listings Aug 24-30

Time again for the weekly West Hampstead film round-up brought to you by Mark - the Hugo Weaving of NW6 (tweeting at @NxNW6).

Film Listings for Aug 24-30
Lots going on as ever in the local world of cinema. A great film of the week, the re-opening of the Tricycle and the start of an Everyman Sunday afternoon cinema club are just some of the highlights.

Film of the Week

The Imposter* (2012, documentary, 99 mins)
Hot on the heels of Searching for Sugarman, another amazing looking documentary hits the local screens. The film centers on a young Frenchman who convinces a grieving Texas family that he is their 16-year-old son.
Everyman Belsize Park Fri-Thu 15:50, 18:15, 20:40 (exc Sun when 15:20, 17:45, 20:10, early screening Tue at 16:15).
Everyman Maida Vale Fri-Thu 15:40, 18:05, 20:35 (exc Sun when 15:10, 17:35, 20:05, no late screening Thu night).
Also showing at the Finchley Road Vue

One-off screenings
The Everyman Hampstead is starting a film club on the final Sunday of every month. The idea is to show classics at a reasonable price (£10). Films scheduled to be screened include The Birds and The Apartment. It all starts this Sunday.
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972, surrealist, 102 mins)
Everyman Hampstead 13:45 Sun 26.
Luis Buñuel's surrealist classic recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. The plot centres around six middle-class people and their consistently interrupted attempts to have a meal together. Recommended if you have never seen it. In my opinion, one of the funniest films ever made.
The Imposter + Q&A
Two locally scheduled screenings + Q&A with the creators of the film of the week.
Everyman Hampstead Tue 28 18:10
Maida Vale Thu 30 18:05
Price TBC.

Regular programme

Multiplexes
Special mention to the local Vue for going the extra mile. It is showing an incredible 17 different films over the next 7 days. Not bad for a cinema that has 8 screens. In comparison the Odeon has 6 films spread over its 5 screens.

The Watch* (2012, comedy sci-fi, 102 mins - from Mon 27)
Ensemble comedy with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard ‘IT Crowd’ Ayoade. Critically panned in the US, the signs are not good.
Keith Lemon: The Film* (2012, comedy, 85 mins)
The huge success of the Inbetweeners movie has a lot to answer for. This is the first in a line of TV comedy transfers we can expect over the next 12 months.
The Three Stooges* (2012, comedy, 92 mins)
The mediocre new films just keep on coming this week. The Farrelly Brothers thought it was a good idea to resurrect Moe, Larry and Curly in an new adventure. It wasn’t.

  1. I'll have to take a look at Discrete Charm..currently spinning Belle de Jour in BD

  2. It's very unusual Eugene, but excellent if you go with it. A lot more unorthodox than 67's Belle de Jour. Surreal with a capital S.
