NxNW6 film listings Oct 26th-Nov 1st

Time again for the weekly West Hampstead film round-up brought to you by Mark - the Tim Burton of NW6 (tweeting at @NxNW6) (as opposed to the Tim Burton of NW3 who is actually Tim Burton).

Film Listings for Oct 26-Nov 1
Film news: there is a bumper crop of one-off Halloween-inspired screenings and events across the area this week, not least the second #whampfilm event this Friday night at the local IMAX where 30 of us are watching Skyfall (see you there).

The main news this week is the introduction of a pop-up cinema for kids opening in Queens Parade, Willseden Green. It's completely free and the first screening is Halloween themed. It will be either 'A Nightmare Before Christmas' or the Disney version of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'. You can vote for your preference.

Film of the Week

Skyfall (2012, action thriller, 143 mins, 12A)
It has been four long years since the underwhelming and under performing 'Quantum of Solace'. The word of mouth on 'Skyfall' is that this is a real return to form. I'm just grateful that it isn't in 3D.
Showing at the Everyman Hampstead, Maida Vale and both multiplexes from Friday (times below). Tickets for this weekend are limited with a number of screenings already sold out. The exception is the Finchley Rd Vue who are showing it an impressive 23 times daily with a full range of options (Xtreme, over 18s only, etc.).

One-off screenings
MENA Film Festival - The Tricycle Fri 26-Sat 27. Multiple screenings across the two days.
Festival to celebrate Middle Eastern and North African film making. Full listings are available here.
Halloween (1978, 91 mins, horror, 18) Finchley Road Vue Wed 31st 22:00 £12
Classic horror from John Carpenter (Escape from New York, The Fog) with Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in a star making turn. One of the original slasher films that spawned numerous inferior sequels and countless imitators. Terrifying.
The Shining (1980, 142 mins, horror, 15) Everyman Hampstead Wed 31st 20:35 £13
Preview of the digitally remastered classic that is being released in cinemas next Friday. This US version of the film has never previously been seen in the UK and adds 20 minutes of additional footage.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, 100 mins, comedy musical, 12) Finchley Road Vue Wed 31st 20:00 £12.
Great opening titles, apart from that it's a bit overrated in my opinion. Maybe it's just not my thing.
The Birds (1963, 119 mins, horror thriller, 15) Everyman Hampstead Sun 28th 13:00 £10
Latest film from the monthly Everyman classic cinema club. This Hitchcock film has been in the news recently for the fresh allegations from Tippi Hedren about her relationship with Hitch during the filming. Adds an additonal element to the already multi-layered film. A masterpiece.

Regular programme
Hampstead Film Society
Pan's Labyrinth (2006, 118 mins, drama fantasy, subtitles)
Guillermo del Toro film set in 1944 fascist Spain. The young stepdaughter of an evil army officer escapes into an scary but captivating fantasy world. Political allegory that grows in stature with every passing year.  Recommended.
