Film Listings for Nov 9-15
Film news: This week we have the continuation of the Jewish Film Festival at the Tricycle and a potential Oscar Best Picture winner makes film of the week.
Film of the Week
Argo* (2012, thriller, 120 mins, 15)
The story of the 1980 joint CIA and Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomats out of revolutionary Iran. Directed by Ben Affleck, produced by George Clooney and with one of the best supporting casts you are ever likely to see. Make no mistake – this is one of the films of the year.
At the Hampstead Everyman as well as both multiplexes from Wed 7.

One-off screenings
UK Jewish Film Festival The Tricycle
More than 70 films are planned for the Jewish Film Festival across the UK between Nov 1-18 and the Tricycle is a London hub for its duration. For a full programme please see the website.
Coldplay live – Mylo Xyloto Finchley Road Vue Tue 13 19:30 £10
One-off screening of the film covering their recent world tour. If you stand at the back and buy some overpriced lager, it will almost feel like being there.
The Metropolitan Opera presents The Tempest (2012, opera/ballet, 161 mins) Sat 17:35 £30 (includes welcome drink).
Part of the 2012-13 season of live transmissions to the Everyman cinema chain featuring 12 productions straight from New York. The Tempest will be broadcast live via satellite to both the Hampstead and Belsize Park cinemas. Not cheap but pretty cool nonetheless.
Regular programme
Hampstead Film Society
Promises (2001, documentary, 106 mins) Tue 13 Nov 7pm
Documentary that follows seven Jewish and Palestinian children for three years as they are put in touch with each other. As the children get older, they begin to lose their childhood innocence as the conflict takes over.
Hampstead Town Hall – 213 Haverstock Hill, £7
The Tricycle Cinema
Programme tuncated due to the UK Jewish Film Festival
Room 237* (2012, documentary, 102 mins, 15).
Documentary exploring a range of theories concerning the hidden meanings of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. The theories range from the absurd to the plausible. If you are a fan of the film, I cannot recommend this enough. I found it to be fascinating and hilarious in equal measure. If you have never seen The Shining – there is zero point seeing it.
Fri 18:30, Sat 14:00, Mon 18:30.
Ginger & Rosa
Recent Sally Potter film finally comes to The Tricycle. The plot concerns two teenage girls growing up in 60s London. Fair to say that reviews have been mixed.

(£9.50 adult, £8.50 concessions, Mon £6 adult, £4.50 Brent resident).

Rust and Bone
If not quite the equal of Audiard’s last film, A Prophet, Rust & Bone is still an unforgettable cinema experience. It also contains one of the best screen performances of the year in Marion Cotillard's portayal of Stephanie.
